4th of July DUI Prevention - "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Campaign

drivesoberorgetpulledover.jpgWashtenaw County's annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" drunk driving campaign will begin July 1, 2014 and run through July 13, 2014. The campaign will target anyone driving/boating while impaired.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office recently released a message stating that the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) is coordinating the annual campaign to help increase awareness of the importance of not driving drunk during the summer holiday season.

"Given all of the time many of us spend traveling throughout our communities, impaired driving remains a serious threat to community safety, requiring a consistent and diligent enforcement effort. We're proud of Brian and grateful for his leadership on this important community safety issue."

There will be an increased police presence throughout various neighborhoods and recreational areas during the campaign. If you are considering drinking at any social event, I strongly recommend you designate a sober driver, take a cab or walk home, or rent a hotel room to stay at for the night. Whatever you do, do not drink and drive. You will be arrested.

Throughout my career as an Ann Arbor criminal defense DUI attorney, many of my clients tend to get arrested for driving impaired during holiday seasons despite knowing that the police are looking to catch people driving impaired.

Remember, in Michigan, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08% or higher. In addition, even if your BAC is below the legal limit, you can still be arrested for driving impaired if there are traces of alcohol in your system and the officer observes signs of impairment. You will face enhanced penalties and sentencing if you are charged with a DUI and your BAC is .17% or greater.

A drunk driving conviction can have severe short and long-term consequences. If you are charged with drunk driving in Washtenaw County, contact me for a consultation. I provide criminal defense legal representation to Washtenaw County residents and others accused of drunk driving.
