Expert Witness Testimony Overview
A drunk driving expert witness can be used to testify about the scientific aspects of your case. For example, if your chemical or field sobriety test results are questionable, then you may want to consider having an expert witness take the stand for your defense. Expert DUI witnesses typically include the following:
1. Forensic Toxicologist
Forensic toxicologist are commonly used to review blood alcohol content test results in addition to other tests used to determine your intoxication (if applicable). Some of the key things a forensic toxicologist will examine is whether the tests were administered correctly, detect whether an operator error occurred, or if faulty equipment was used.
2. Accident Reconstruction Expert
An accident reconstruction expert will examine the scene of the car accident (if applicable) to determine if you were at fault. Accident reconstruction experts tend to use police reports, witness statements, insurance claim reports, and access vehicle damage to determine fault.
3. Field Sobriety Tests Expert
A field sobriety tests expert can be used to prove whether or not you passed the field sobriety tests administered to you, whether such tests were administered correctly, and examine any additional factors (other than you being intoxicated) that may have led to you failing the tests.
There are several different types of expert witnesses who may be called to testify on your behalf.
