This past Saturday, a friend and I saw the Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts.  All I can say is "Wow!"

Despite the sold out crowd, I enjoyed the exhibit immensely.  Rembrandt, apparently, decided to portray Jesus as Jewish and ethnic rather than the fair skinned, European rock star we often see.

The various sketches and paintings are amazing in the detail and artistry.   The Master was also quite the teacher - to the untrained eye, it's difficult to distinguish between some of the works of Rembrandt's students and the Master himself.  Luckily, the signage and audio tour help.

The exhibit ends February 12, 2012.  I highly recommend ordering tickets online and/or taking a day off during the week to avoid crowds.  The museum has extended its weekends to accommodate the record-setting crowds.  Be sure to take a leisurely walk around the rest of the museum.  There's also a wonderful exhibit of photographs taken in Detroit.  It brought back some fond memories of the beauty of Detroit for this transplanted, native Detroiter.

And, the museum cafeteria offers pretty good food for a pretty good price.
